The Fujikura FSM-45PM-LDF is a new version of the standard FSM-45PM designed to provide enhanced capabilities for splicing large diameter fibers (LDF).  Fibers with cladding diameters up to 500μm can be automatically aligned and spliced using proven Fujikura alignment techniques.

A high powered arc discharge unit provides the power necessary for LDF splicing, and large diameter electrodes provide durability for LDF splicing in a production environment.  The electrodes feature dual position adjustability to provide the proper arc environment and intensity regardless of fiber diameter.

A wide field of view camera provides the capabilities required for automated LDF alignment while maintaining precision for conventional 125μm fiber splicing.

The FSM-45PM-LDF retains all the other capabilities of the standard splicer, including sweep arc technology for dissimilar fiber splicing, high strength and short cleave length splicing, and great programmability and control while maintaining simplicity of operation.

Enhanced capabilities for PM fibers include new attenuation modes for polarization maintaining fibers and also an interface capability with the Adaptif A1200 PER Analyzer and A2000 Component Analyzer that provides a new alignment method that can be especially useful for micro-structured (“holey”) or non-circular PM fibers, or others that present alignment challenges.
